Informed by my visits to various museums and palaces across India, this project emerges as a contemplation of the pre-colonial lifestyles of Indian kings and their remarkable armory formations, textiles, traditions, cultures and jewelry. These elements, once grand and extravagant, have over time become less pronounced and increasingly mundane. This evolution inspired me to archive and reimagine these arrangements and memories, which are gradually fading or transforming with the passage of time.

The ongoing discourse surrounding the decolonization of Indian museums—most notably reflected in the Modi government’s Central Vista redevelopment project provoked further thought about how old narratives are being replaced with new ones. The function and philosophy of museums, too, are shifting; they are no longer merely spaces to aesthetically archive and display history but are being redefined as engaging and interactive spaces for the public. A striking example of this shift is the Museum of the Future in Dubai, which aims to inspire and document the possibilities of the future.

In this evolving context, I felt compelled to preserve and document the craftsmanship, artistry, and visual splendor of these historical objects of possession through my own lens. The visuals I created blend the past and present, combining textures, motifs, and formations inspired by Indian heritage with the bold, solid, flat surfaces emblematic of contemporary aesthetics. Presented in a monochromatic palette by deliberate choice, the work evokes the essence of an archive, creating a bridge between memory and present day aesthetics. These visuals, abstract and unknown, echo the essence of palace and museum imagery, reinterpreted through a personal and experimental lens.
