Parts as Wholes; Wholes as Parts
As an artist,I felt like sharing the process of art making with people. Thus, I developed this interactive game in the format of a zine to invite people into the playful and transformative world of visual storytelling. My aim was to engage participants in a process where they could explore and make meaning of the unknown. By interacting with imaginative motifs, cutting them out, and composing them into new contexts, the activity encourages participants to connect with the fluidity and subjectivity of visual interpretation.
The zine serves as a toolkit filled with motifs inspired by forms and motifs familiar to the human mind. Participants are encouraged to experiment with these elements, arranging and deconstructing them to create visuals that resonate with their personal aesthetic sensibilities. Working exclusively in a monochromatic palette of black and white allows participants to concentrate on the relationships and placements of the motifs without the distraction of color.
This process reveals how a single motif’s meaning can shift dramatically when juxtaposed with others, emphasizing the power of context and individual perception. As participants exchange their compositions, they gain insight into how the same set of elements can be reimagined to tell entirely different visual stories. This collaborative exchange deepens their understanding of how meaning evolves within the interplay of visual elements.
